Si Woo Hula’s Way to Victory 🌺

Si Woo Kim, like everyone expected of course, took the victory in Hawaii at the Sony Open this past weekend.  The South Korean was 3 strokes behind leader Hayden Buckley heading into Sunday and fired off a (-6) 64 to win by 1 stroke. This was his 4th win on the PGA tour and was quite an impressive one, shooting 64-64 on Saturday and Sunday.  For the second week in a row, we saw another player come back from at least 3 strokes when heading into the final round.  Jon Rahm overcame a 6-stroke deficit to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions just a week prior. And of course, this tournament was also in Hawaii.  Kim would end up taking home $1.4M of the $7.9M purse… 🌺 Aloha bitches.

I am sure we all had Si Woo Kim on our betting slips prior to the tournament and not some guy named Jordan Spieth.  If you had Jordan winning it all, you were probably feeling pretty good about yourself after Round 1.  He shot a 64 and was tied for the lead with 2 others after Round 1.  Then out of no where, he shot a 75 on Friday and missed the cut. And you thought the stat I gave you before was quirky (maybe you didn’t), Spieth was the first player in under three years to be in the lead after day 1 and then sent packing for home on Friday evening.  Better luck next time Jordan.  I am sure this was just a blip on the radar and we should still expect a strong 2023 out of him.

Swing for the Fences

A golf slice: the bane of every golfer's existence. It's like trying to hit a moving target... if that target was a flying saucer, and you were blindfolded and had one arm tied behind your back. But don't worry, these tips have covered with all the advice you need to turn that slice into a straight shot… or at least a hook 😎

Course of the Day

I feel that our first “Course of the Day” is a dandy, especially if you’re a sucker for Northern Michigan golf.  Opened in 2002, Forest Dunes Golf Club is a 7,116-yard, Par 70 course located in Roscommon, MI.  It sits on 500 acres of wooded land within the Huron National Forest and is annually ranked within the top 25 nationally by all the major golf publications.  The course provides many stay and play packages that include lodging that are just steps away from the course.  It also includes numerous villas and cottages that are scattered throughout the property, all of which are great to book for a long weekend golf trip with your best mates.

In addition to the Forest Dunes course is “The Loop”, which is a course that can essentially be played “backwards”. Golfers can play The Loop’s Black course routing in a clockwise rotation one day. The next, everyone turns around and plays the Red course routing in a counter-clockwise manner.  It’s a very unique concept and is one of those bucket list items that everyone should cross off.  Lastly, one of its more popular amenities is the HillTop putting course.  This “putting green” is nearly 2-acres with an 18-hole course routed throughout the rolling terrain.  The best part is that there is no cost to play the HillTop and tee times are not required. Just come as you are and bring your putter and a ball.

I can’t find any reasons not to go, so start planning your trip now.

19th Hole

When it comes to golf equipment and tech there’s some cool shit out there. Range finders, latest driver, shoes, golf apps, you name it! Anything to get below 90 amiright? 😉

One that that has always seemed interesting are shot tracking systems. They’re little buttons that plug into the top of the grip. Each shot you tap it to a small sensor on your waistline. This tracks each club and shot on whatever course you’re on. It then displays and analyzes each slice / shot you take.

The best feature of shot trackers is they’re frictionless. Don’t need to pull out your phone or some other gadget. Drink in one hand and club in the other and I’m all outta hands 🤷‍♂️
