Another first-timer at the Wells Fargo Championship 🏆

Wyndham Clark is all smiles after winning the Wells Fargo Championship

Another PGA Tour event, another first-time winner in 2023. Wyndham Clark beat out No. 5 ranked Xander Schauffele for a four-stroke victory and took home a nice paycheck of 🤑 $3.6 million at the Wells Fargo Championship. His total score of 19-under marked the lowest score at the Wells Fargo Championship since 2015, when Rory McIlroy set a tournament record at 21-under. The Wells Fargo Championship became one of the Tour’s newest designated events in 2023 and with it came a bigger purse of $20 million 💰. Who doesn’t like a bigger pie to share?

Clark arrived at Quail Hollow with only four top finishes since turning professional in 2017. However, history was on his side because apparently the Wells Fargo Championship has been a happy hunting ground for several first-time winners since its tournament debut in 2003. The list of players to claim their first PGA Tour win at Quail Hollow include big names such as 🐅 Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Max Homa, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy (who has won this tournament 3 times).

Congrats to Wyndham on his first win and we hope to see more first-time winners this year 🏌️‍♂️

🦁 Rory showed up for golf

Speaking of Rory, he made his return after missing the cut at the Masters and skipping his second designated event of the 2023 season that cost him about $3 million in PIP money 😮. He didn’t win (obviously) and he didn’t necessarily compete for first place either 🤷‍♂️. He ended the tournament at Even and tied for 47th place. He least made it to the weekend after disappointing results at the Masters and The Players Championship (both missed cuts). It was good to see him out there because in the end, we are all human and need our mental health breaks. Let’s see if the break helps him get out of his Majors slump and maybe even change his approach to the PGA Tour vs LIV drama going forward.

🐅 Tiger and his caddy part ways

Tiger Woods and long-time caddy Joe LaCava have mutually agreed to part ways after being together since 2011. The long-time “looper” has now joined Patrick Cantlay’s bag full-time and helped him finish tied for 21st at the Wells Fargo Championship this past weekend. LaCava stood by Woods through several lengthy periods of time when Woods was recovering from injuries and not competing. Given Woods’ most recent surgery, it’s likely he won’t be competing again for several months, and perhaps longer. Sources say that this was just a situation where LaCava wants to caddie and Tiger understands that being that he hasn’t golfed a whole lot lately. I am sure Tiger will have no problem finding another caddy by his side. Heal up quickly Tiger, the game wants you back!

Course of the Day

What else can you add when you are home to the two largest single-day sporting events in the world? Well, golf of course . The Brickyard Golf Course is home to the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 🏎 and has been a staple in the city of Indianapolis since 1929.

This unique course was designed by once again, Pete Dye. This 18-hole course offers one of the most unique experiences in all of sports, with four holes located inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and 14 holes adjacent to the backstretch of the 2.5-mile racetrack.

The Brickyard utilizes Dye’s signature railroad ties 🚂 as well as large slabs of concrete along creek beds. The concrete was reused after the racetrack’s walls were torn down and replaced with a safety barrier. Many well-known celebrities have experienced the Brickyard, including the Beatles and Mark Wahlberg.

The golf carts are replaced with race cars and…we’re kidding. Though, it would be pretty cool if you could. Standard rates run $200 from April through October and $250 during the Indy 500 and other qualifying events. On certain dates in May, the golf course will be open and have IndyCar’s on the track at the same time 😲. Talk about an experience!

19th Hole

Here’s a dream 💭 - having your own backyard par 3. I’m here to tell you if you have the space it’s a goal that’s in reach. You might not live on a farm to be able to install something like this personal par 3 but there’s a ton of DIY tutorials for putting greens on YouTube and it’s fun to go down that 🐇 rabbit hole.

Here’s some backyard greens to give you some inspiration:
